Summary of the Lesson – “Erase and Engrave”
The story “Erase and Engrave” is about a boy named Sachin who visits his grandmother’s house in Jagdalpur with his family. During his visit, he meets his best friend Satyam after a long time. They are very happy to see each other and spend time talking and playing together under a mango tree.
While they are sitting on a swing, a dog named Moti comes near Sachin. Out of fear, Sachin accidentally steps on the dog’s tail. The dog cries and runs away. Satyam becomes angry and pushes Sachin, shouting at him for hurting his pet. Hurt by Satyam’s reaction, Sachin walks away sadly and doesn’t speak to anyone.
The next day, they both go on a trip with their families to Chitrakote Falls. At first, Sachin is still upset, but when he meets Satyam, his friend holds his hand and smiles. They forget the fight and enjoy the day together. While walking along the river, Sachin writes on the sand —
“My friend pushed me angrily.”
Later, when they go boating, Sachin slips and falls into the water. Since he cannot swim, he starts drowning. Satyam immediately jumps into the river and saves him. To show his gratitude, Sachin uses a sharp stone to engrave on a rock —
“My friend saved my life.”
When Satyam’s father asks him why he engraved those words, Sachin replies that he wants to remember his friend’s kindness forever. Then, his father explains the lesson of the story —
“When someone hurts you, write it on sand so that it fades away with time. But when someone helps you, engrave it on stone so that it stays forever.”
The story teaches the importance of forgiveness, friendship, and gratitude. It reminds us that we should erase anger and mistakes and engrave love and kindness in our hearts.
कहानी “Erase and Engrave” एक लड़के सचिन की है, जो अपने परिवार के साथ जगदलपुर में अपनी दादी के घर जाता है। वहाँ वह अपने सबसे अच्छे दोस्त सत्याम से मिलता है। दोनों बहुत खुश होते हैं और आम के पेड़ के नीचे झूले पर बैठकर बातें करते हैं।
तभी मोती नाम का कुत्ता सचिन के पास आता है। डर के मारे सचिन गलती से उसकी पूँछ पर पैर रख देता है। मोती रोते हुए भाग जाता है। यह देखकर सत्याम गुस्से में सचिन को धक्का देता है और कहता है, “तुमने मोती की पूँछ पर पैर क्यों रखा?”
सचिन दुखी होकर वहाँ से चला जाता है और किसी से बात नहीं करता।
अगले दिन दोनों परिवार चित्रकोट जलप्रपात घूमने जाते हैं। पहले सचिन थोड़ा नाराज़ होता है, लेकिन जब सत्याम उसका हाथ पकड़ता है और मुस्कुराता है, तो दोनों फिर से साथ खेलने लगते हैं।
नदी के किनारे सचिन रेत पर लिखता है —
“मेरे दोस्त ने मुझे गुस्से में धक्का दिया।”
थोड़ी देर बाद जब वे नाव में घूम रहे होते हैं, सचिन फिसलकर पानी में गिर जाता है। उसे तैरना नहीं आता, पर सत्याम तुरंत कूदकर उसकी जान बचा लेता है।
इस बार सचिन एक पत्थर पर नुकीले पत्थर से लिखता है —
“मेरे दोस्त ने मेरी जान बचाई।”
जब सत्याम के पिता पूछते हैं कि उसने ऐसा क्यों लिखा, तो सचिन कहता है कि वह अपने दोस्त की अच्छाई को हमेशा याद रखना चाहता है।
फिर उसके पापा समझाते हैं —
“जब कोई तुम्हें दुख दे, तो उसे रेत पर लिखो ताकि समय के साथ मिट जाए।
लेकिन जब कोई अच्छा काम करे, तो उसे पत्थर पर उकेरो ताकि वह हमेशा याद रहे।”
यह कहानी हमें सिखाती है कि सच्ची मित्रता में क्षमा, प्रेम और कृतज्ञता सबसे बड़ी ताकत हैं। हमें दूसरों की गलतियाँ भूल जानी चाहिए और उनकी अच्छाइयाँ हमेशा याद रखनी चाहिए।
