📚 LET US SPEAK

Narrate the poem in the form of a story. Give a different ending to the story. You may
begin like this:

This is a story about a clever fox named Reynard and Mr Raven. One day…

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

This is a story about a clever fox named Reynard and Mr Raven.

One day, Mr Raven was sitting high up on a tree branch. He had a piece of food in his beak. Just below the tree, Reynard the Fox saw him. When Reynard noticed the food, he wanted it for himself.

The fox thought, “I must be clever if I want that food.”
So, he looked up and said in a sweet voice,
“Good morning, Mr Raven! How handsome you look today. Your feathers shine so beautifully. Surely, you must be the King of the birds. But… a King should also have a sweet voice. If you sing, I am sure all the birds of the forest will call you their King.”

Mr Raven felt proud. He thought, “Yes, I must show my voice to the world.”
He opened his beak to sing, and the piece of food fell down.

Reynard quickly picked it up and was about to run away…

But this time, Mr Raven was not foolish. As soon as he opened his beak, he kept one claw tightly on the food before it could fall. When Reynard tried to snatch it, Mr Raven said,
“Your trick will not work on me today, Reynard. Beauty and flattery cannot fill my stomach. Only wisdom can.”

Reynard felt ashamed and walked away without food. Mr Raven enjoyed his meal happily, and the birds of the forest admired his cleverness.

You may begin like this.

Reynard: Good morning, Mr Raven! You seem to be awake so early! (Mr Raven just nods his head)

Reynard: Oh, Mr Raven, you look …

Reynard and Mr Raven – A Conversation Story

Reynard: Good morning, Mr Raven! You seem to be awake so early!
(Mr Raven just nods his head.)

Reynard: Oh, Mr Raven, you look so handsome today! Your feathers shine in the sunlight.
(Mr Raven ruffles his feathers proudly.)

Reynard: Surely, you must be the King of the birds. But… wait! A King must also have a sweet voice. If you sing, all the birds of this forest will call you their King.
(Mr Raven opens his beak to sing. The food almost slips, but he quickly holds it tight with his claw.)

Reynard: (surprised) Oh! You did not drop your food? Very clever of you, Mr Raven. I thought you would be fooled by my words.
(Mr Raven looks at Reynard with sharp eyes and flaps his wings.)

Reynard: (ashamed) I see now. Sweet words cannot cheat a wise bird. I will go and find my own food.
(Mr Raven happily eats his food while Reynard walks away, embarrassed.)
